La Sierra gives record $1.1 million in scholarships during annual ceremony

The 2026 Endowed Scholarships and Awards Ceremony was held at the La Sierra University Church where scholarship donors and university administration, deans and faculty distributed awards to students. In all, 147 donor-based and institutional scholarship funds provided essential monies to current students who met scholarship criteria and who are returning next year to the Seventh-day Adventist university.

Angwin to Angwish Gathers Nationwide Runners

For the third year, Angwin to Angwish sold out, with about 160 participants from the community, the state, and some flying in from Tennessee, Arizona, and Oregon to compete in the event on May 3 at Pacific Union College. Runners ranged in age from 5 to the 60s to compete in the 10k, 26k, and the kids’ 1-mile race.

Before He ascended to Heaven, Jesus issued the Great Commission: “Go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to the whole creation,” (Mark 6:15, ESV). Southern Adventist University’s Evangelistic Resource Center (ERC) follows this command by equipping laypeople to evangelize. That includes students who sign up and travel to Argentina, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, and other international locations. Volunteers are each assigned to a local church where they preach daily sermons during a weeklong visit.

And likewise, so am I,” Michelle Laboy said as she reflected on her decision to join the Nursing Program at Union. As a mother of four kids, she never envisioned her family moving across the country from California to Nebraska just for nursing school. But God can move mountains, so she packed her kids and dog in a car and drove east. Now, she’s at Union finishing up her third semester. “I would have never thought I would come here. But Union called me. So I took it … This is definitely a calling. God wants me to go do this.”
